RAUHFASER opening @ Kröller-Müller Museum

-C-A-S- collaborated closely with artist Lilian Kreutzberger on the design and scenography of her solo exhibition at  Kröller-Müller Museum. 

With RAUHFASER she takes visitors to a near future where digitization is inextricably woven into our daily lives. In her latest installations, she envisions a future in which buildings, street furniture, and objects are covered with a constantly changing "electronic skin": screens that ceaselessly feed us with images. Kreutzberger allows form, image, and function to flow into one another. Visitors are invited to immerse themselves in a sensory experience that is both disorienting and deeply familiar.

Lecture @ Het Nieuwe Instituut - Post Natural Landscapes

During the Post Natural Landscapes research night, architect Carolien Schippers and artist Yuri Tuma (co-founder of the Institute for Postnatural Studies), explored the hidden landscapes and design of waste processing with the audience through film and meditative practices.

Wasteland festival is an annual transdisciplinary festival on waste ecologies.

Exhibtion - Arcam City Guide to Waste: Artefacts of Accumulation

On Thursday January 31st the exhibition opening of Artefacts of Accumulation marked the end of our time as Architect in Residence at Arcam Amsterdam. 

We started the evening with a research presentation and screening of the documentary co-directed by -C-A-S- and Locument followed by a panel discussion and philosophical reflection by writer and philosopher Lisa Doeland.  We were happy to see the research results that sparked a lively discussion among the attendees on how to relate to waste and underlined the urgency of looking at waste from a spatial perspective.

At -C-A-S-, you work collaboratively in a compact and driven team on a variety of inspiring projects. You will be involved in various tasks related to design, research, coordination, and execution. We offer space for you to grow your skillset and get acquainted with different aspects of the profession.

What we are looking for:

• An architecture student (master level, not yet graduated) 
• Strong design and graphic skills
  
• Proactive, creative and inquisitive
  
• Flexible and able to switch quickly between research and execution
  
• Fluent in English, Dutch is a strong plus
  
• Advanced experience with Rhino, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign. Vray and/or Enscape is a strong plus

What we offer:

• A 6-month internship, starting in January/February 2025
  
• A 32-hour workweek, with working days arranged in consultation
• Monthly stipend
• A dynamic and fun workplace in the center of Rotterdam, shared with other young design firms
  
• Work on various types and scales of projects.

Site visit to AEB Amsterdam

This fall Carolien Schippers is architect in residence at Arcam Amsterdam and explores our fraught relationship with the waste we create and the space it consumes through sites of waste processing and deposition. Sites that shape both its past and future. 

As part of the program a site visit to AEB Amsterdam the largest waste seperation and incineration plant in the Netherlands  took place on November 6th. For this residency we are happy to collaborate with the Locument, Romea Muryn and Francisco Lobo documenting 6 locations in and around Amsterdam including AEB in a documentary short.

Deze maand was Carolien te gast bij Daan Roggeveen in zijn maandelijkse podcast Toren van Babel. 

Toren van Babel is een maandelijkse serie binnen de Architectenweb Podcast. Hierin praat architect Daan Roggeveen (MORE Architecture) met ontwerpers, ontwikkelaars en andere experts die allemaal hun eigen perspectief hebben op hoogbouw. Doel is het antwoord vinden op de vraag: hoe maak je nu een echt goed hoog gebouw?

Carolien Schippers selected as Architect in Residence at ARCAM - Fall 2024

Arcam (Amsterdam Architecture Center) selected Carolien Schippers and her team as the second Architect in Residence from September to December 2024 with the research Amsterdam Wastescapes. 

Spaces of waste are an integral part of our way of life and have informed and will continue to inform the growth of the city of Amsterdam and its landscape albeit in the shadows.

For this residency we are happy to collaborate with the Locument, Romea Muryn and Francisco Lobo.

Werklandschappen in transitie 

-C-A-S- is in samenwerking met Buro Moon en OTO Landscape geselecteerd voor fase 2 van het ontwerpend onderzoek Werklandschappen in Transitie van Stichting Deltametropool.

'Werklandschappen in Transitie' is een ontwerpend onderzoek traject naar bedrijventerreinen in gemeente Zaanstad, provincie Noord-Holland. 
Doel van het onderzoek is om de impact en stapeling van verschillende transities op bedrijventerreinen te verbeelden en te komen tot een handzame toolbox voor gemeente en provincie om te werken aan een duurzame toekomst van deze waardevolle locaties.

Architectenweb artikel: Zoning: ideas for a new Dutch vertical urbanism

In this article for Dutch website Architectenweb I am making a plea for more and smarter controls in high-rise construction in Dutch cities. Referring to New York Cities zoning law as an intersting example how to be stringent and yet leave room for architects to experiment and innovate within a strained typology.
